Lanfear Lanfear, of course, is one of the thirteen Forsaken - Aes Sedai who pledged their allegiance to the Dark One. The name Lanfear, which she took after becoming a Forsaken, translates into "Daughter of the Night" in the Old Tongue. She is considered the most powerful female Forsaken and the second most powerful of all, next to Ishamael. She is very beautiful with long black hair and can be a bit seductive. She generally wears white dresses with a silver belt with moon and stars on it.The beginning Lanfear was born Mierin Eronaile and had an affair with the original Dragon, Lews Therin. Though he later ended their relationship once he realized that she was only interested in power and ambition, she claims that she has always loved him and that he would have continued loving her if not for his next relationship with Ilyena. She later became a researcher at the Collam Daam and headed a project to find a source of power that both men and women could use, as opposed to saidin for men and saidar for women. Instead of finding a new source of power, she accidentally stumbled across the Dark One's sealed prison and opened it. After ruining the wedding between her love Lews Therin and Ilyena, she pledges her full loyalty to the Dark One and renames herself Lanfear. Ever onward Once Lews Therin dies, she transfers this love to Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, and becomes quite obsessed with him. Lanfear claims that Tel'aran'roid is her domain and that she owns all dreams, though Moghedien, a fellow Forsaken, could easily beat her in that realm. She came to Rand under the disguise of Selene, a beautiful and mysterious woman, and often tried to seduce him with promises of glory and power. She has also taken other different forms, sch as the peddler Keille Shaogi in the Aiel Waste and Silvie in Tel'aran'rhiod. Death and reincarnation At the end of The Fires of Heaven, Lanfear disappears into the twisted doorframe ter'angreal with Moiraine in Cairhien. She has been presumed dead or stilled for a long time, until the most recent installment in the Wheel of Time series reveals that she has actually been reborn as Cyndane. The name Cyndane itself translates into "last chance" in Old Tongue. As Cyndane, she is young, short, very pretty, has long silver hair, and blue eyes. Though not as powerful as she used to be in the One Power, she is still stronger than Graendal. She currently travels with Moghedien and is mind-trapped by Moridin. |
